Monas Confirmed, DKI Government Appreciate The Medan Merdeka Development Steering Committee
Jakarta, 14 Februari 2020 – The Medan Merdeka Development Steering Committee allows Monas to host Formula E race on June 6, 2020. As stated in the letter from the steering committee, Medan Merdeka Area Development Steering Committee confirms and approves the plan to conduct the Formula E race in the Medan Merdeka Area.
DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan appreciates the decision given by the Steering Committee. “We appreciate the Steering Committee that give us an opportunity to show Monas to the world during the Jakarta E-Prix.”
Anies also ensures that the event is still on schedule. “There will be no delays, the schedule still on June 6, 2020,” he says. Jakarta Organizing Committee (OC) and Formula E Operations (FEO) will continue with preparations to complete the construction of the circuit and other event infrastructure ready for the inaugural race in Indonesia.
President Director of PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda) who is also the Chairman of Organising Committee of Jakarta E-Prix, Dwi Wahyu Daryoto said: “We are very thankful for the approval, so we can work continuously to achieve coordination with the entire stakeholders and perfect preparation since the approval was issued.” Dwi stated.
As well as confirming the Formula E race will remain in Monas, the track layout has also been revealed. The 2.56km clockwise circuit features 12 turns (see map attached).
In the next few weeks the track construction will begin. This is after the field studies have already been completed by Formula E Operations, Federation Internationale de I’Automobile (FIA), and the Tilke architect team, accompanied by the OC team at the end of last month.
“The OC will assure not only the detail requirement from Steering Committee but also preserve the National Monument as a national heritage, during the construction of asphalt, grandstands and other facilities and amenities.” said Dwi. The preservation of national heritage is stipulated in National Law 11/2010 about national heritage.
Formula E is an electric car racing championship that has one collective mission – to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles. This is the message campaigned by Formula E to prepare cities around the world to transform into smart cities in future in terms of air quality and sustainable solutions. Jakarta is, of course, one of the cities that is projected to become a smart city in the near future.
The Jakarta E-Prix is one of the series of ABB FIA Formula E Championship 2019/20 in 11 big cities across the world. Governor Anies Baswedan officially announced together with Formula E Co-Founder & Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo on September 20, 2019 in Monas.
